What the reference shelf taught us
Before shaping the design authority, we studied established documentation and developer surfaces — what makes a reference page scannable, how a changelog earns trust, where a hero helps and where it gets in the way.
The lessons are now baked into the system: typography as the primary interface, whitespace as content, color for meaning only, and one canonical source so nothing drifts. The reference shelf was not decoration; it was the first draft of the rules.
If the site feels calm, that calm is borrowed from people who solved this problem before us and wrote it down. We are standing on that shelf, and labeling the spines.
